Dr. Rajesh Sivaprakasam is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Lead for Robotic Renal Failure Surgery, Education, and Research at Barts Health NHS Trust. He is the Chief Investigator for the NIHR-funded ACCESS 2 clinical trial and Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials assessing digital innovations in renal transplantation and dialysis access. He also co-chairs the Multi-speciality Robotic Research Group at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Dr. Sivaprakasam has over 12 years at Barts Health NHS Trust, where he leads robotic renal failure surgery and is involved in advancing patient care through technology integration. He performed the first renal transplantation broadcast live on television and multimedia, focusing on patient engagement to improve outcomes for patients with long-term illnesses, including renal and pancreas transplantation.
He leads initiatives to increase organ donation rates, particularly in Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, and participates in local and national programs to raise awareness.
He completed training in abdominal organ transplantation at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and conducted research in cellular biology at the University of Cambridge. He is Lead for Surgical Education for Year 5 students at Queen Mary University of London and serves as an examiner for intercollegiate exams at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Dr. Sivaprakasam co-founded BOT SYSTEMS, a company integrating healthcare and technology to develop solutions for patient care. He has held multiple advisory and board roles, including Board Member at GIANT Health 2025 and Executive Director at CancerEquity.
His medical qualifications include MBBS from Annamalai University, FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, MPhil in Organ Transplantation from the University of Cambridge, and fellowship at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He holds Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons and is a Fellow of the International Society of Robotic Surgeons.
Dr. Sivaprakasam’s research work is published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. He contributed to the creation of the world’s first risk score to predict outcomes following intestinal transplantation. He has also received recognition for improving structured work experience for students interested in healthcare, acknowledged at the Barts Health Community Awards 2018.
