Martin Bartlam is the Founder and CEO of Coded Law and the Head of Business Affairs and General Legal Counsel at Xfinite Global Plc (Eros Group). He has over 35 years of experience in law and finance, specialising in FinTech, structured finance, and securities.


He has held senior roles in major international law firms DLA Piper, where he served as a Partner, heading the international Projects, Finance, and Restructuring team, and later as Global Co-chair of the Global Fintech Group and led the international Finance, Projects and Restructuring practice, managing a team of around 600 lawyers.
 

Before DLA Piper, Martin was the London Managing Partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he also headed the finance team. He also spent time at Jones Day, focusing on finance, and at Calyon Investment Bank, where he led the structured products team.
 

He has been involved in developing new technology brands at Xfinite and Immerso, and has experience in banking, including debt structuring at NatWest Markets. He also advised clients on international structured deals, including ICOs, securitisation, and capital markets products.
 

Martin has contributed to several initiatives, including being a Senior Advisor at Corinthian Digital Asset Management Limited and acting as General Counsel to Global Digital Finance. He has presented masterclasses on blockchain and ICO issues, addressing regulatory and practical issues in the finance sector.
 

Martin Bartlam's publications include several key articles in the field of finance and technology. These include "Understanding the Basics of European Marketplace Lending," "Can Blockchain Live Up to the Hype?," and "FinTech - Redefining the Finance Sector," all published in 2016. He has also written "EBA Set Out Principles for Qualifying Securitisation" in 2015, and "Changes in Rating Agency Counterparty Criteria" in 2013. All of these articles were published in Global Financial Markets Insight.
 

He is recognised as one of the leading FinTech lawyers globally, having been ranked in the Legal 500. He serves as a Senior Advisor at Argentium Digital Asset Management Limited and has previously acted as General Counsel to Global Digital Finance. He has contributed as a mentor to the FCA Digital Sandbox program, guiding startups and innovators within the regulatory framework.
 

Martin is a member of several organisations, including Global Digital Finance, where he served as General Counsel. He has also been involved with various industry bodies, including the Loan Market Association (LMA), UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies, and insurance industry groups, presenting at conferences and advising on digital finance and new financing techniques.
