Baroness Sandip Verma is a Member of the House of Lords UK. She served as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development (2015-2016) under Prime Minister David Cameron.
Baroness Verma is also the Chair of the EU External Affairs Sub-Committee in the UK House of Lords. She was the Chair of the EU Sub-Committee for Goods, a Member of the Lords EU Select Committee. She was a Government Whip and spokesperson for Cabinet Office, International Development, and Equalities and Women’s Issues.
She also served as the Ministerial Champion for Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Overseas and chaired the UN Women’s National Committee.
Baroness Verma also played a key role in launching the Sellafield Women’s Network and supporting the establishment of the UK Women in Nuclear Chapter. She received the inaugural Women in Nuclear Award for her efforts to increase the representation of women in senior roles within the nuclear sector.
Baroness Verma is the Chancellor of the University of Roehampton and Advisor on the Amity University International Board.
Baroness Verma is an independent Non-Executive Director of the REA (Renewable Energy Association), Global Chairman of World Wide Generation (WWG), and Advisor on the Board of Sir John Cass Foundation.
Baroness Verma is also the Global Chairperson of the Institute of Directors (IOD) India.
Baroness Verma received the Pravasi Bharat Samman from the President of India in 2011 for her work in strengthening business ties between the UK and India.
She holds honorary doctorates from Wolverhampton University (UK) and Amity University (India) for her work in building business ties between the two countries and an honorary fellowship from the Institute of Directors (India) for her work on corporate social responsibility.
