Rupert Hofmann is a foresight strategist and observational draftsman, whose drawings depict people
and modern life from street situations to drone prototypes. His parallel studies in fine arts and
international business sparked his passion for strategic foresight, within which he blends observation
and intuition with analysis and strategy. He works for Audi Business Innovation GmbH, is founder of
the cross-industry collaborative Foresight Academy and author of Trend Receiver methodology
(publications and drawings at www.ruperthofmann.com ).

He studied at Munich Academy of Fine Arts, University of Passau, Columbia University in New York
and Federal University of Juiz de Fora in Brazil. During his PhD, he developed the Trend Receiver
concept, a novel qualitative method of trend research that contributes to vision, strategy and
product development.

The focus of his observational and on-site drawings are people and their life paths, spaces and
objects of modern everyday life, screen-in-space situations, department stores, prototypes, city
districts, street perspectives, beaches and bars. The graphic capture of urban spaces, of objects such
as a story of flight and migration from Aleppo to Bielefeld or of prototypes such as moon robots and
new drones, gives him intensive access to interesting contexts and new forms as well as an
independent format for lectures and publications.

Rupert Hofmann has published in various international journals and books on visionary competence
and foresight methods and their practical application. As part of his work for Audi Business
Innovation GmbH, he founded the Foresight Academy ( www.foresightacademy.com ) as an
international collaboration of global players from various industries. Together, they develop shared
visions of desirable future lifeworlds and use these for their respective strategy and product
development.

Since 2011, Rupert Hofmann has been leading various cooperation projects with the University of St.
Gallen, Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen, Tongji University in Shanghai, TH Ingolstadt and AMD
Munich. He also was a lecturer in drawing at the Universidade de Barra Mansa (Brazil) and in trend
research at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Munich. In 2022, together with various
image scientists and creative agencies, he introduced the term "Creative Foresight".
