Dr. Muhammad Khurram is a transplant and vascular access surgeon at the Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health in London. He completed his medical education in Pakistan and underwent his basic and higher surgical training in the UK. Dr. Khurram holds a PhD in transplant immunology and tumour biology, focusing on expanding the donor pool.
Dr. Khurram is actively involved in medical education, teaching undergraduates at Queen Mary University of London and surgical trainees at various levels, including membership and fellowship exams. He is also part of the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s faculty.
Dr. Khurram serves as the surgical lead for the Medical Support Worker Programme at Barts Health, where he helps refugee doctors secure NHS careers. He was recently appointed Vice-chair of the Education Committee for the 2024-2027 term.
He also completed a postgraduate certificate in genomics to better understand its potential applications in transplantation. His research interests cover a wide range of topics, including machine perfusion, transplant immunology, machine learning and artificial intelligence in transplantation, and advanced vascular access.
